It's an endless debate, but maybe this will help you decide:
Probably old news, but I just had to post this :-)

We had a close encounter with some cute monkeys yesterday.
So here I am with my monkey :p
We had been warned about the monkeys being very fast and good pickpockets,
but the lady right next to us obviously wasn't paying attention at the time.
I saw one of the little buggers going for her purse and before I could even shout
he was back up in the trees inspecting his latest acquisition:
You might think this is cute, but you should have seen how very "not"-cute
the little monkey was when they tried to get it back :p

The PCB's I work with aren't cased, so I needed something to put them on.
I couldn't find anything other than a cardboard box:
It looks like crap, but it works :-)

I finally managed to take some time and get my blog up and running again.
Threw out the old system and wrote a new one, it's still under development,
so there are still a few things missing, but the basics are there.
I allow people to comment by filling in a captcha or signing in using OpenID.
Because any bot can sign in using OpenID, there's a small verification step involved.
You'll have to verify your e-mail address by clicking on the link you'll receive,
when you enter your profile information for the first time. The upshot of this
is that you'll never have to enter your profile information again and if you
specify the URL of your blog, it'll be added to my blogroll automatically.
For those who are interested:
My blog is powered by ASP.NET 3.5 and MS SQL Server 2005 express,
hosted on a Windows 2008 Web Server Edition which is a VMWare machine
installed on an Ubuntu 7.10 Intel Xeon Quad Core server. For those of you
getting ready to put me on fire because of the Microsoft issue, let me say this:
I don't care about the whole Microsoft vs the rest of the world mentality,
every OS and every piece of software has its place and use. Besides the 200€
license Windows Server 2008 cost us isn't going to break the bank and I'd pay
the same amount for Ubuntu Server if it wasn't a free give-away.
The gallery is powered by Picasa Web and contains normal pictures,
images I need for blog entries and pictures I submitted using my BlackBerry.
If you're wondering about the logo, ask Viol8or, he designed it.
I still have to add a search box, tag list and collected data from systems
such as Twitter, Google Reader and del.icio.us. Using the default Twitter scripts
isn't an option because it relies on your browser being able to neglect the fact
that Twitter is down most of the time. Instead I'll simply implement a "tweet" cache.
Well that's it, let me know what you think and like I said... don't burn me :-)

@Bjorn Monnens: I tried replying to your blog, (just can't resist a Silverlight topic)
but it gracefully rejected me with a message stating comments has been disabled.
Since I couldn't find a contact link on your page, I hope you get to see this post.

It's been such a busy and eventful day.
E-Mails just kept coming (still are) and it's hard to keep up.
To make matters worse, the iPhone SDK has been released today and
I just couldn't resist the temptation to download it and take it for a ride.
(
It's nothing like the .NET Compact Framework, but it'll have to do I guess...)
I finished writing the last of the activities for my workflow based Google sync tool
and started working on the WPF powered UI. Somewhere in between I found the
time to make a few suggestions to the Google Calendar and Account API teams
After all this I turned on the TV in order to watch "The return of the Jedi" as I
finally convinced Lien to watch all the episodes last week. (
Knowledge of the force is a must).
So now I'm here blogging, trying not to think about all the mails I still have to reply to.
Reminds me of what
Vince asked me yesterday: Why aren't there 48 hours in a day?
I suppose that would be possible, but that would leave us with only 3.5 days in a week.
Tomorrow we're finally going to install the new satellite dish, which means I'll be
working on dvb/mythtv on Linux for the next few days (and all my other tasks).
Whoever invented e-mail:
I kill you!

As of today the Silverlight 2 beta 1 runtime and SDK are available for download.
Microsoft also provides the source code for all of the controls in Silverlight 2.
The current beta is backwards compatible with Silverlight 1.0, but not with the 1.1 release.
Since 1.1 was actually an alpha release for version 2 there is nothing wrong with this.
At the time of writing, I haven't found the Mac OS runtime yet.
The Mono team
isn't to far behind, so Linux support should arrive soon.
Thanks to
Coolio for the heads up.

If you get stuck with to many thoughts in your mind, you'll end up going crazy.
So time for me to spit them out:
- If you're very good at your job and all your implementations
are bug-free, you'll become invisible. - If you introduce even the slightest bug they'll make you painfully famous
- The Lost pieces are finally falling together... it's all starting to make sense now
- Programming against 8 year old, prorietary, hardware protocols is a real p.i.t.a.
- Finally put my smartphone/pda aside...
- I hate text messaging with those tiny buttons on those numeric keypads
- I should probably start using my smartphone/pda again
- Where is the iPod2 ?
- Great, I buy an eeePC and they decide to get rid of the large speakers
and provide a bigger screen instead. - Don't let someone become the network administrator just because he
happened to be the guy closest to the server when the old admin left.
(Tip from the guys at .NET Rocks) It leaves me with an impossible architecture! - Addicted to feeds...
There you go... to be honest it didn't help... I'm just as insane as I was before.... bugger!

I'm just testing Flock's ability to post messages to my blog.
It sounds to good to be true... so here goes nothing.... tada...

I've decided to add a
list of my IT related books to my blog.
It contains most of my books, although quite a few are still missing.
I shouldn't lend books to poeple anymore... I always forget about them.
A few (not so) interesting facts:
- My favorite publishers are Wrox and O'Reilly
- My prefered language is English (It takes me to long reading Dutch books)
- There are currently (at the time of writing) 49 books in the list
- Currently (at the time of writing) I have books from 15 different publishers
- I do most of my reading on the toilet
- I have bought one e-book (which I decided to print in order to read it)
- I usually buy one or two new books every month
- I buy most of my books through online stores
